Our Favorite Holiday Marketing Campaigns

Last month, we discussed our favorite Thanksgiving and Black Friday campaigns on the MYPR blog, featuring REI, Coca-Cola and American Express. Now it’s time for our favorite 2017 holiday campaigns from Spotify, M&Ms and TJ Maxx!

Spotify

For the past few years, Spotify has been (anonymously) shaming users on billboards about their listening habits throughout the year. This year’s campaign’s theme was “2018 goals,” such as “2018 goals: Deliver burns as well as the person who streamed [Selena Gomez’s] ‘Bad Liar’ 86 times the day Sean Spicer resigned.” The campaign is a fun way to look back on users’ listening habits and remind everyone that we all have embarrassing, guilty pleasures.

M&Ms

M&Ms debuted a sequel to its BBDO-designed iconic commercial spot from 21 years earlier where Santa faints dead after seeing the M&Ms duo. The Yellow M&M takes on the role of Santa and, in a comedy of errors, he brings everyone across the globe together to exchange presents.

The new spot, “is so well staged by La Pac Director Reynald Gresset that it transcends its own Santafied sappiness—fully appropriate in a Christmas ad anyway—to deliver a merry punch line that hits home with good cheer,” according to AdWeek.

TJ Maxx

TJ Maxx offers something a little different for shoppers this year – a campaign that is part experiential retail, part commercial and part guerilla marketing. If you find one of the exclusive snow globes in a TJ Maxx store, crews will come to your home to deliver an actual snowy, winter wonderland! This campaign is particularly appealing as Denver was looking at a possible green Christmas.

Though not necessarily our personal favorites, NewsWhip put together a list of the most viral 2016 holiday campaigns/posts based on engagement. The categories include campaigns on any social media platform (the number one spot went to the YouTube video of Pentatonix singing Hallelujah), on Facebook, on Instagram (Kylie Jenner had the top 11 of the 100 posts during the holiday season) and more! Check it out if you’re looking to see what kind of media was most consumed last holiday season!

From MYPR, have a safe and happy holiday season!
